| There are currently seven registered 18-hole golf courses and one 9-hole course
operating in Hungary. The majority are situated where the traditional demand
has been: either near Budapest or close to the Austrian border. |

| Brief History of Hungarian Golf |
|
The first introduction of golf in Hungary was organized by Baron Géza Andrássy
at the racecourse in 1902. The Budapest Golf Club was founded in Budapest in
1911 which later became the Hungarian Golf Club. At that time the Hungarian
golf life started to develop at a high speed. People had to avoid golf courses
between 1952-70, because of the political discrimination.
After changing of the political system in 1989, the Hungarian Golf Association
was established, that became member of the European Golf Association and the
World Amateur Golf Committee. Then courses were built throughout the country,
and golf started to became popular again.
